Doula Odessa & Birth Services was such a blessing to have throughout our pregnancy and birthing journey. Odessa was knowledgeable, competent, kind, and consistently focused on providing the best support for the vision we had for our birthing experience. She helped us establish a birth plan that aligned with our values and goals without trying to force any path on us. In today’s world there are so many books, social media influencers, and people in your life with something to say about giving birth. As first-time parents, trying to weed through all these voices was overwhelming. Odessa helped guide us through all our questions and concerns while seamlessly integrating with the hospital staff where we gave birth. Overall, we can’t thank Odessa enough for the support she provided.

Hi there! My name is Joslin Dupuis. I am a loved and loving Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Clinical Social Worker, and Full Spectrum Doula. I live with my husband, our two beautiful and silly children, two dogs, a cat, and an unknown and outrageous number of chickens, turkeys, and quail. I love to look at the moon, walk barefoot, forage for mushrooms, grow food, bake bread, and serve as an agent of change in the lives of individuals, families, groups, and communities. My path toward birth work is a woven tapestry of personal and professional experiences. I started my college career pursuing a degree in Atmospheric Science, thinking I wanted to be a Meteorologist. Through a lot of self-reflection, I realized that my true passion and deepest joy was found in helping others. For that reason, I shifted my academic pursuits and graduated with my master’s degree in Social Welfare in 2015. I immediately entered the medical field and found myself as an Obstetric and Perinatal Palliative Care Social Worker. I loved that job and realized that birth work is my heart work. I was able to help countless families through their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. My shift from inpatient medical social work to birth doula has allowed me to be more present with my family and still use my clinical skills. I am calm, patient, mindful, flexible, and trauma-informed. I have a special interest in perinatal mental health and helping individuals find joy and healing through their life transitions. My philosophy as a doula and a social worker is “meeting people where they are.” I will meet you with unconditional and nonjudgmental support. My job is not to write your birth story. My job is to hold space and present you with evidence-based information so you can make an informed decision that works best for you, your body, and your baby. I will work as a part of your interdisciplinary team, assisting you through this beautiful journey that you are on. My goal is for you to reflect on your birth experience and feel satisfied and that you felt loved, held, and respected throughout our work together. Reach out anytime to schedule a free one-hour consultation. I would be honored to be a part of your story. Sub Specialties: As a Clinical Social Worker and Doula, I have extensive experience and training in serving those with increased risk of social or emotional challenges in pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting, including: Survivors of pregnancy and infant loss. Expectant parents who have a mental health diagnosis or who are at increased risk of perinatal mood disorders Those navigating a high-risk or medically complex pregnancy. Expectant parents who have experienced birth trauma or other types of negative birth experiences. Expectant parents with a history of trauma (childhood or adult), including physical or sexual abuse or assault survivors.

Having NiNi as your doula is the best thing you could possibly do for yourself and I mean that! She was there every step of the way, which I know wasn't easy because my anxiety was soooo high and I must have texted her at least 100 times throughout my pregnancy haha! She ALWAYS took the time to calm my worries and reassure me about whatever I was stressing about. But she didn't just calm me she prepared me for it all. I began this pregnancy scared because it was so unexpected and I didn't feel ready to deal with everything that comes with a pregnancy. it's soooo overwhelming because there are so many things you have to be aware of. Well I learned all about everything with NiNi. She introduced me to so many things. I never took herbs before, never did yoga or meditation. and now I do it regularly. My birth experience was so amazing!! I was positive I would be getting the epidural as soon as entering the birthing center- but NiNi and I worked those curbs and did our breathing techniques and she had my husband helping with the hip squeezes....by the time we got to the hospital I only had to push for 20 minutes or so and my baby boy made his appearance!! I have no words for how proud of myself I was! I just couldn't believe it. She really helped me see that I CAN and DID do that without drugs!! I plan to refer her to anyone I know who is pregnant because this lady is a blessing. Thank you again and whoever is reading this- hire her immediately. She goes out of her way to take care of you and treats you like a Goddess and that alone was worth the money. My husband now has to step his game up haha! But all jokes aside- I didn't even know what a doula was before this pregnancy and now I will never give birth without one again- if I do it again.

Sara, has saved my sanity. I think she's saved my husbands too- simply because of my lessened anxiety. I'm a type A girl when it comes to time, and let me tell you, when a baby doesn't sleep, it certainly doesn't help. As a first time mom and a dual business owner, I am a very "do-it yourself" kind of gal. Before two of my friends recommended Sara, I was navigating the web, on new-mom forums, researching myself, and using ChatGPT to try to help with my infants sleep. Did it help, I'd say sometimes, but it never truly made a lasting difference. I was convinced I could do it myself, until I couldn't. I have a wonderful, happy baby. At a young age, she was able to put herself to sleep. However, as she got older, and woke up to the world, it could take us an hour or more to get her to sleep. And somedays, there would simply be no sleep. I needed help, for my baby and my sanity. Sara has taught my husband and I so many things. Let's just start by saying not only does my little girl fall asleep independently, but she also sleeps overnight . She's taught us how to navigate sleep and infant illness. She's reminded us that although babies like consistency, they are amenable to schedule changes and it will not ruin EVERYTHING. She's also made us realize that a sleep failure is not "our fault". Babies are babies and sometimes they beat to their own drum. She's a calm in a whirlwind of a storm. So, if you're questioning hiring Sara and you are anything like I was- DO IT. The first two weeks may be a challenge, but it will change your life with your baby, I promise!

Marissa helped us get ready for the arrival of our first baby. We had two meetings before our girl arrived a little earlier then expected. The first meeting was getting to know each other and Marissa gave us tons informative videos we were able to watch and a few social media accounts to follow with very helpful exercises, stretches, and general partner bonding. Marissa encouraged me through the ending of my pregnancy to stay active and hydrated also to practice breath work whenever I had a moment! Marissa was always quick to respond to me or my husband's text messages or calls Even when we had the silliest of questions! She recommended a wonderful book for my husband so that he was as supportive as possible in the delivery room. Our second meeting we went over some of the best positions to be in during labor and my Birth plan. The day that I was induced, Marissa was Incredibly supportive via text message until she was able to get to the hospital. She made sure that we were asking the right questions to our providers to make sure that we were getting all the info we needed to make informed decisions. During labor Marissa was very Helpful in reminding me to breathe and counting for me during contractions. She captured some of the most beautiful photos for my husband and I during this time as well! My birth felt easier because of the suggestions Marissa gave us and the reminds in option I had in each stage of labor and birth!

Kara Studenski

My name is Kara, and I am working toward 6 Birthworker certifications in CT: birth doula, postpartum doula, lactation support & educator, childbirth educator, newborn care, and breastfeeding educator. I believe our bodies are powerful, and that birth can be a natural, incredible experience given the right support and environment. I firmly believe in evidence-based care guided by intuition. I give my families the info they need to make the decisions that are best for them, and I support them every step of the way. I have a background in music education and nonprofit work, and I have a son, who was my major inspiration for turning to this work. I want to help support the women who are going through one of the biggest transformations of their lives.

Kara helped my wife and I navigate the birth of our first child the entire way - from detailed preparation meetings to being at the hospital through most of the labor process to overnight assistance in the first month of being home to being an open source of help and information continually since then. Numerous nurses in the delivery room talked with Kara and were surprised to find out that we were her first clients, given her expertise and wealth of knowledge of different stages of labor and strategies for my wife to help her through the labor process. My wife and I have already recommended Kara's services to other expecting couples and would readily do so to anyone looking for a doula!
