I have always been drawn to newborns, infants, children of all ages, and their families. There is a richness in family life that always brings about such a great sense of wonder and awe. There is a way a baby or toddler looks back at you and you know they don’t care what color your hair is, how many wrinkles you have, if you are overweight, underweight, or have zero sense of style. They just know how to LOVE. It is that unconditional love and trust in a baby’s eyes that instilled a strong desire in my heart to protect this innocence and trust by providing families with care providers they could trust. Care that is always gentle, loving, slowly paced, curious, and joyful. We want to bring this into your home.
Northstar Newborns has been a Godsend for our family. Ellen has gone above and beyond to meet our ever changing needs and our two nannies/doulas have become part of our family. Our children are not only well cared for, but truly loved by them. I would recommend speaking with Ellen if you are looking for care for your little ones.

Sierra is our one and only, beloved doula. She has been with our family through the birth of our two children at the Minnesota birth center. Sierra brought positivity, faith and a deep sense of calm to our visits and to the births. Sierra is a wonderful advocate - experienced, knowledgable, supportive, fun, thoughtful, and a sweetheart! Our relationship with our doula doesn't end after we bring home our babies. We know that we can always reach out to Sierra and that she will receive us with open arms. Sierra you are such gift. We love you!

"Most of us did not learn when we were young that our capacity to be self-loving would be shaped by the work we do and whether that work enhances our well-being." – bell hooks. This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my training to become a certified perinatal educator - meaning I can provide childbirth education, prenatal support, labor and delivery support, lactation support, and newborn care support. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born with my mother being hospitalized for 2 months postpartum from an avoidable mistake during an emergency c-section. I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.
Tricia was a helpful, knowledgeable face from the very first call we had with her during my pregnancy. She provided us with great resources through the pregnancy and was amazing during the labor process. A handful of things about my labor didn’t go the way I had wanted or had planned but having her by my side meant everything to both my husband and I. We felt safe having her by our side advocating for us and making sure I remained safe through the process of everything. We highly recommend Tricia and are so thankful for her impact during the pregnancy and birth.

Hi, my name is Clarice and I’m a Certified Postpartum Doula, PCD(DONA), Lactation Counselor and Certified Postpartum Nutrition Professional, CPPNP. The 4th trimester is full of joy and excitement but can also feel overwhelming and be a challenging transition time. Focus and attention is typically on the birth, but evidence shows that support during the postpartum time is critical for the new parents. I would love to help you adjust to your new role by providing physical and emotional support. My goal is to provide nurturing care so you can heal and recover from the birth experience and at the same time build confidence in your parenting abilities.

I’m Hallie, the founder and CEO of Better Beginnings. My passion for supporting women and families through the incredible transformation into parenthood began with my own journey. After experiencing the challenges of the postpartum period with my first two children, I felt called to create a resource that could make this transition smoother and more supportive for others. That’s how Better Beginnings was born. Today, I’m proud to lead one of Minnesota’s premier teams for postpartum doula and lactation support. Our team is highly trained and deeply committed to providing compassionate, expert care to families during this pivotal time. As a certified lactation counselor and certified postpartum doula, I’ve spent over a decade working with mothers and families, helping them navigate the early days and beyond with confidence and reassurance. My work is grounded in both personal experience and professional expertise—I’m a mother of four, and I know firsthand how deeply the journey into motherhood transforms us. Supporting families isn’t just my profession; it’s my calling. My mission is to make quality postpartum care accessible and to create a nurturing community for mothers as they embrace each stage of motherhood and self-discovery. I’m grateful to share in this journey with you and look forward to supporting you along the way.
We feel so lucky to have had Better Beginnings as our postpartum doula provider. From the moment they came into our home, they brought a calm, supportive, and respectful presence that really helped us feel more confident and grounded as new parents. They weren’t just great with the baby, they also jumped in to help with things around the house like laundry and vacuuming, which was such a relief when our hands were full. Even before our baby arrived, they got us thinking about how to navigate some of the tougher parts of parenthood during our prenatal meeting, which we really appreciated. After the birth, they were always available to answer questions and shared helpful resources that made us feel like we were on the right track. And the cookies and muffins they baked? So good. Little treats like that really lifted our spirits when we needed a boost. We're so grateful for their support, kindness, and guidance during this special time. We'd absolutely recommend working with them to any new or expecting family.

Hi everybody! My name is Hayden Brame and I am a doula here in the Twin Cities. I have been working with children and their families since I was a teenager (more than 10 years now!) and am so passionate about families and making sure that every family has the best start imaginable. I believe that giving birth should be empowering and focus on the choices that you are able to make and on giving you the information that you need to make those choices. I will advocate for your decisions, from everything from what music to be played to what pain management you would prefer, and I will also hold space in the moment for any changes that you need. Birth is sacred and should be treated as such- at the end of this experience, you'll have a new member of your family to start a life with and I want to make sure that you are set up for success every step of the way!

My name is Maggie Mau, and I am a mom of two girls and two very sweet rescue pups, Hopper and Eleven. My partner is a longtime teacher for Saint Paul Public Schools and we have lived in the South Como neighborhood in Saint Paul for the last 15 years! As a family we enjoy camping, hiking and exploring our country’s beautiful national parks. It is not odd to find us hammocking up at Como park, picking mulberries and reading :) I enjoy running, gardening, reading and baking and hosting regular gatherings of family and friends. I have been in the Twin Cities nonprofit sector my whole career, and the passion that I feel for the success of individuals and families in our community is now being carried forward in a different, but equally important way – through the support and empowerment of families as they navigate their birth journeys. I believe in leading with empathy and deep listening, in order to best support families to create their own powerful birth experiences. I feel humbled and honored to be able to share space and offer support to you - the amazing parents and parents to be!
Our experience with Maggie has been nothing but exceptional from the moment we did our meet and greet. She has such a warm, welcoming, calming, and salt of the earth vibe that is so comforting and supportive. Maggie listened to what we had to say and always incorporated it into our meetings making us feel heard and validated. Maggie was full of information that was tailored to our needs as well as additional peripheral knowledge if it so benefited us. She always came to our meetings well prepared with a plan though allowed us to set the pace and fulfill our needs/questions without pushing us to meet her agenda. Maggie came with zero judgement and did a great job at giving us risks and benefits when we were questioning some of our choices. By the time it came to labor and delivery Maggie felt like family making our birth experience that much more meaningful. Maggie stayed with us for 20 hours straight, always with a smile and comforting words, and never wavered in her support and encouragement. She is a huge ingredient in how we achieved our VBAC with her advocacy and ability to empower us in a multitude of ways. We will forever be grateful that Maggie was a part of our birth story! It is such a blessing to have her in our sons baby book as she will forever be cherished in our hearts and mind. We love Maggie and hope to keep her in our lives for years to come! Gold star doula and beyond!

I’m Paige and I’m a mom of 3. I spent most of my young adult life working with people with developmental disabilities. After that, I received my Sign Language Interpreting degree from Saint Paul College and worked with Deaf/Hard of Hearing folks before becoming a stay-at-home mom. I have spent the last several years raising my kids. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s my favorite job yet! Now it’s time for me to do what I really love: postpartum work! I have always been passionate about families, pregnancy, birth, babies, and postpartum. Parents deserve so much more support and education as they are growing their families. Many people tend to focus only on pregnancy and preparing for birth, but they don’t spend time preparing for postpartum. My goal is to help families be more prepared and supported for all that comes when adding a new baby to the family. I want families to have a smoother and more peaceful postpartum experience. I am based out of South Saint Paul, Minnesota and am currently serving the greater Twin Cities area.
Paige was a great help to our family, both emotionally and physically. She is professional and understanding. Our toddler loves Paige!

Hello and Congratulations on your new arrival! I've been a birth doula since 2018 through the organization DONA. Every birth I have assisted with has been a beautiful and a learning experience for me. I feel blessed to be a part of this special moment in the lives of my clients. My practice provides you and your partner with continuous emotional and physical support. You are in charge, but a doula can assist with you staying in charge, especially in a hospital setting. Doula's are skilled at helping to alleviate the fear factor of giving birth. Every mother deserves a doula, and I hope you would consider me to be yours. Best wishes! Rhonda
Rhonda was a fantastic team member addition for my husband and I with our second birth experience following a first traumatic birth without a doula. She allowed me to have a healing, peaceful, happy birth and served to guide us at important points for us in the birth journey for preferred holistic comfort measures, another person in the room who cared about my Spinning Babies/hypnobirthing/prayerful birthing style, and supported us in our belief that pregnancy is a normal, healthy process- not a disease to be treated, haha, and birth can be joyful. She helped me find important resources ahead of time with books and listens well to us now in our third pregnancy about what matters to us (Spinning Babies is a great example of this- she takes this seriously that I want to rely heavily on this and is doing her homework alongside me, it is comforting to have someone do this alongside me). Rhonda is gentle, confident, caring, and genuine in her care for you. She truly wants to make your birth experience to the absolute best possible. As we live about an hour from her and I have fast labors, I initially was nervous about this but she was so prompt and responsive and came immediately at first signs of labor that my trust for her is very high even with a bit of distance involved. Highly recommend Rhonda to be a part of your best birth!

Hi my name is Libby! Having a passion for caring for people and family led me to my love of postpartum care! One of the biggest blessings in life is the ability to carry and bring a new life into this world. Here is a little background on me (the short version) - I started working at KinderCare during my summers in college. 2016-2018. August of 2018 I started nannying for a 15 month old while I was still finishing my Bachelors Degree. I stayed with that family until I graduated college in May of 2020. (I actually still have contact with this family and remain very close with them.) I graduated college from UMN Twin Cities with a BS in Child Developmental Psychology. After college I worked as an ABA therapist for Kiddos with Autism. Then I moved to a school district and worked in SPED with kiddos with EBD (emotional behavioral disorder). Finally that brings me to my current job 2020-now. I work as a Guardian ad Litem for the State of Minnesota. Essentially a cross between an attorney and a child advocate in the family court system. I am looking for some part time work for a couple of reasons, but the main reason is I recently lost my mom to chemotherapy complications in May of 2024. Since then I have been trying to find things that bring me joy in such dark times. Children are that joy for me. While I work with children in my regular career, I want to get back to my roots in providing direct one on one care for kiddos.

My services are designed to complement + enhance the care provided by the birthing person's medical team. I use evidence-based strategies to help my clients prepare both physically + mentally for birth, while also fostering a sense of connection + community.
Sarah was a great addition to the birth of my 1st daughter, Lilah. My husband and I were nervous going into the process, and didn't really know what to expect, and wanted to know everything we could. My husband and I did not hire Sarah until a month prior to our scheduled induction, as we had not fully committed to hiring a doula. Once we did, Sarah made sure to come to our house several times to go over all of the planning of our birthplan, going over several movements/positions, and overall informing us of the process and what to expect. She was very calming and reassuring even though we were nervous. Sarah did a great job of informing us about the processes involved in my induction, she was very knowledgeable about different movements and positions to encourage baby to move, and was super helpful in keeping my husband and I calm, as we tend to have higher anxiety generally. During the labor process, Sarah was extremely mindful of our wishes, and conveying them with the staff and making sure that I had autonomy over my experience and that decisions were not going to be made for me or pushed at me. She explained things to me that I didn't quite understand when doctors came in, and made sure my voice was heard. After the birth, she stayed with me until I was moved and settled, and even came to visit us when we came home from the hospital. She is also coming over again to meet to see how things are going, and help me plan my return to work. I would definitely recommend Sarah to everybody, even if you have gone through the birthing process before, as she is wonderful at making the experience more intimate and precious. Thank you Sarah for everything you did!
