My name is Jennifer West of tend•her and I am a certified birth and postpartum doula and a birth keeper who supports families in Calgary, Alberta and the surrounding communities. I also support women virtually which allows me to tend women all over the world. My goal and my passion is to support women no matter what birth they are choosing to have. At home, at the hospital, assisted and unassisted, I believe all women deserve the high level of care and support I give.

As a birth doula and mother of three daughters, I believe birth is both a normal physiological process and one of the most transformative experiences in a woman's life. I believe so much of birth support happens before birth itself. Rather than offering only a couple of prenatal meetings, I work closely with families throughout pregnancy with a minimum of four prenatal sessions. These sessions give us time and space to build a trusting relationship while preparing for birth through education, informed decision-making, nourishment, comfort measures, nervous system support, and meaningful conversations about your hopes, fears, and preferences. My training in traditional birth work allows me to bring traditional birth wisdom into any birth setting, whether at home, in a birth center, or in hospital because I trust women's bodies and I value informed choice. When your birth process begins, I provide continuous support for you and your partner and my care continues after birth with daily postpartum check-ins for the first week, along with a postpartum visit on day 3 and day 7 to support the transition into life with your baby. I never want finances to be the reason someone doesn't reach out for support. If cost is a barrier, please don't hesitate to contact me. I offer payment plans and am open to discussing partial trades or other creative arrangements when appropriate. Every family's circumstances are different, and I'm always happy to have a conversation and explore what might work for all of us.
