About me

Hello New Parent & Congratulations! My name is Brittany Wendell, Certified Birth Doula in Middle, Tennessee (mainly serving Clarksville & Nashville). I believe parents deserve to know all of their options, and be fully informed about each possible choice. We will work together on coping techniques, understanding and listening to your body, and full confidence in the many ways birth can unfold. I will support you and stand by you from our consultation through to your postpartum appointment. In my free time I like to spend time with my family, do Pilates, and take a walk outside. I can’t wait to meet you!

Prenatal & Birth Support

Informative, Compassionate, Evidence-Based I take on a fixed number of clients per month to ensure I can give you the care and attentiveness you deserve. Through the prenatal period, I will help you to reduce tensions, allowing you to pay attention to your body and your baby. During labor, I will use aromatherapy, breathing techniques, position changes, and hands-on comfort measures to carry you through to the birth of your baby. A great doula always has many tricks up her sleeve!

Birth Planning Meeting

Educating & Stress Reducing Think of this as a *lightning-speed* childbirth education session where you learn the big things and how to research everything else. A 2.5-hour meeting where we will sit down (physically, or virtually) and chat about birth, come up with a plan, and I will provide you with resources regarding all of the decisions to be made during birth and immediately after. You will leave with a PDF of your birth plan, and feeling prepared for birth. Virtual Only : Can be all at once or split between two appointments.

Frequently asked questions

WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME TO HIRE A DOULA?

As early as you are ready to hire one! Ideally, you would take time to meet and interview a few doulas in your first trimester and then nail one down by 16-20 weeks. This allows you to start your payment plan early and get your birth on the calendar right away. Choosing a doula is a very important part of your prenatal period and choosing one you hope to grow in a relationship with and allow in your birth space is essential.

DO YOU PERFORM ANY PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS?

I will not perform clinical tasks, such as taking blood pressure, listening to fetal heart tones, or performing vaginal exams. I will not make decisions for the client. Instead, I will help get the necessary information for the client to make an informed decision and will remind the client if there is a departure from her birth plan. I will not speak to the staff on behalf of the client regarding matters where decisions are made. The doula will discuss the client’s concerns with the client and suggest options, but the client will speak on her own behalf to the clinical staff.

DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT PLANS?

Yes, I do! After your deposit is made, you have until 37 weeks gestation to pay for your services in full.

HOW WILL HIRING YOU AFFECT MY PARTNER’S ROLE DURING THE BIRTH?

I am here to support you and your partner. I can offer advice to your partner on how to best support you and can step in if they need a snack or a potty break. I am here to empower you and guide you through the birth of your child not to take your partner's place. Rest assured, we will discuss in our preparation for labor and birth how to best keep you and your partner connected and grounded to one another.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET SICK?

I always have a backup doula in place to attend a birth in case I am sick or have a family emergency. I pay them out of your payment to me, and you don't have to worry about a thing. You are always fully taken care of.
