My name is Sandra Luz Alvarado and I am a postpartum doula and a Newborn Care Specialist. I was born in El Salvador and came to California 35 years ago. I am a wife (I have been with my husband almost 30 years!) and a mother to 5 beautiful children, including my youngest, who is three years old. Before becoming a doula, I worked as a graphic designer, elder care provider, and nanny. Some years back I decided to become a postpartum doula. I was interested in expanding my knowledge about infants, while supporting new mothers at the same time. I love spending time with families during this early part of life--helping them to have a smooth adjustment and close bond with their newborn. I am also trained to support women during labor and birth. My birth and postpartum doula trainings are through DONA International. My continuing education includes: childbirth education training, breastfeeding education training, and CPR/First Aid Certification. I love working with new parents and giving them all the information and skills they need to be successful and confident parents. I come from a family of birth workers and OTs —so supporting people through this part of life has always felt familiar and important to me. Over time, I realized how much I care about helping people feel empowered and heard, especially during birth, when they need it most. I believe in practical, down-to-earth support that combines knowledge, empathy, and a warm presence (plus a little humor when it’s needed). I try to meet each person where they are and support the kind of birth they want—whether that’s quiet and private or full of conversation and teamwork.
