Best and most stress free pregnancy care experience I’ve had. Midwives that truly care about you and your baby and not just pushing nonstop medical testing and treatments that weren’t needed for my pregnancy. They throughly explain everything you need to know through the pregnancy and labor process. They take their time to treat you as a human with rights and not just a quick patient that needs to be in and out. This is true healthcare from people that care!!

10/10 will highly recommend!!!! Jenni and the “village” truly made my first pregnancy and birthing experience a breeze. They were extremely nurturing and answered any questions or concerns I had clearly. They made sure I had everything I needed and catered to what I wanted during my son’s birth. I had wonderful pregnancies and deliveries with both of the midwives I was privileged to work with, however, my experience with Jeni and Alyssa has been the best one of all! They are both so professional yet very calm and kind. They are so ready to answer any and all questions you may have very objectively without pressuring you into any specific direction. They inform you well out of their own experience and education as well as offer many other reputable resources for if your interested. Jeni and her team were great from the jump! With a late transfer of care she made sure I had everything I needed for my birth at home! I never felt pressured, or uncomfortable. If you're like me and you want a more holistic, no hidden agenda, go with your gut environment. This is the place for just that. I'm newer to living in Virginia and hadn't heard anything good from the hospitals around here in the Newport News area, so I started looking at birth centers, and I saw the Village Midwife had almost a full 5 out 5 star rating....awesome! My appointments throughout the pregnancy went pretty great, I genuinely enjoyed talking with Jeni during my appointments, and I felt pretty comfortable with her and her student/interns. They are very non invasive when it comes to your body, which is also a plus. She doesn't push any medicines/vaccines for you or the baby. It's up to you and what you're comfortable with, and I love not having to fight for what I want. Gave me peace of mind. My best experience was the birth. I went with a water birth, and man, was that amazing. I highly recommend it. It is so much nicer on your body overall. You can be in a position meant for birth, and you aren't forced to be on your back. I wanted no interventions, unmedicated again, and I got just that. The water was warm and relaxing, as much as it can be when you're going through contractions. My husband loved the fact that he got to catch our baby girl and be more involved. He loves telling people about it. We got our skin to skin and feedings in and were just able to relax afterward, no one asking to poke and prod our baby right away, to weigh her and whatnot. Overall, I felt well cared for, and I felt like I was in control throughout the whole pregnancy/birth. This was a great experience, and if we have any more kids, I'd love to keep going here.

Had my first baby with Jeni and am seeing her again for my second! Down to earth friendly staff. If you’re looking for someone who will support YOU and YOUR requests at all costs then this is the place to come! Everyone is welcome no matter what!

My birth was such an adventure and I was so happy to have Jeni and her team of midwives by my side. They took great care of me up to my birth but due to unforseen unfoldings I had to go to the hospital. The ladies all stayed in contact with me the entire time and I know for a fact would have dropped everything and met me at the hospital. Everything happened so quickly. The after care felt like home and they were so sweet with home visits and always checking in. It feels liek home. After care in the office, I never wanted to leave I would just sit and hang out till the next person came in. You can tell that the hearts of everyone in that office are so involved in their work and they truly care about you and your babe.

My wife and I searched for a midwife who we felt would make us feel comfortable and listen to our concerns. We stumbled across Jeni and her care team. From the moment we walked in the door it felt right. Jeni was so welcoming, understanding and upfront. I feel like when it comes to something as serious as childbirth, you need someone who can FULLY support you BUT be completely frank about the situation and Jeni did not disappoint. Staff: Jeni is the main provider at the village but she does have staff who she is assisting in obtaining their midwifery license and passing along an abundance of knowledge. Facility: Now the building itself needs some tlc but DON'T let that deter you from using The Village. There are several amenities that you will have access to and Jeni will happily assist with any questions or concerns pertaining to said amenities. Care: Me and my family personally felt that we were heard, answered and taken care of. Jeni is available night and day, just work with her if she doesn't answer immediately. Sometimes other families are in the process of adding to their family. :) Unfortunantely, my family was unable to use The Village through childbirth due to unforseen complications, outside of Jeni's control. We were transferred to the nearest hospital and worked with their team AS WELL AS working with Jeni. While we had our daughter 10 weeks early and through an emergency c-section, it was NO fault of The Village. This was one of those tailspins that life throws at you. Overall we were very happy with how Jeni and her staff took care of us even after care was transferred. Finance: While my family has insurance, The Village was out of our network. Jeni worked with us to make payments for her services. I would note that if you need assistance with financing this process, then talk to Jeni and see how she can help. Thank you so much to Jeni and her staff for assisting with the process and birth of our beautiful baby girl.

Husband here! This place is great.... If you like stuffy old medical facilities where the staff doesn't know you and there's constantly a feeling like nobody cares. Village Midwife provides a very personal and laid back environment! You’re not TOLD what you have to do, if there’s another option to do something, they’ll offer it. There’s no pressure at all. They’re very reassuring! Very sweet and helpful. They accommodate as best as they can. Highly recommended! Jeni follows your lead as far as returning back to work & Kia follows your lead in the laboring process as long as it is healthy for you and baby! Id go back IF I were planning to have any more.

I wish I could give Jeni and her team higher than 5 stars. They’re so welcoming and loving. They know their stuff & they’re just amazing people. They welcome you with open arms and never get frustrated when you ask questions. Having a midwife is SOOOO much better than having a regular obgyn in a hospital. The setting is so laid back and chill. The ladies are so warm and friendly, I will choose them again for any future babies I have!

My husband and I just had our first baby last week and thankfully we choose the Village Midwife. We had our boy at their birth center and as I’ve told everyone in my life, I can’t imagine going the “traditional” more common route with an obgyn at a hospital. Not only was my birth an amazing and positive experience, but so was my entire pregnancy because of them. Jeni and her team were there for our family every step of the way and continue to do so postpartum. We are so thankful that we know where we are going for our next pregnancy. If you’re thinking of going to the Village Midwife, do it.

Jeni, Kia, and Keila made my first pregnancy/birthing experience beautiful. I chose to give birth at the birthing center which was an amazing experience. They continue to provide me excellent post-partum care. I recommend The Village Midwife to anyone considering an out of hospital birth or individualized care, but even more specifically if you have mental health concerns that may require extra support. Jeni is the first midwife I have ever received care from and I thought she was amazing. What I love most about her is her sense of humor and welcoming demeanor. She is very family oriented and made my other 2 daughters and boyfriend feel very welcome and a part of the process. Appointments felt like catching up with a family friend rather than taking a seat and waiting your turn at a traditional doctor's office where they rotate you and aren't personable. If you are looking for a friend to guide you through your prenatal, labor and delivery, post partum experiences, I would highly recommend Jeni. Just for reference after a long, back labor at home, I decided to finish my delivery at the hospital. Jeni was gracious and understanding and made my transition there a breeze. I was able to call her during my stay and get some advice and still receive post partum care through her.

I can’t say enough how amazing Jeni and her team were for me during my pregnancy and delivery. Keila and Kia were so kind and helpful. All of my prenatal appointments felt like hanging out with friends. The delivery was amazing and I never questioned Jeni’s professionalism or knowledge. I am so thankful I found her. After three hospital births, we had the home birth I was always hoping for.

After finding out I was pregnant, pregnancy care did not get off to a good start. My stress levels went away when I started working with Jenni and her fabulous team as my Midwife to support me through my first pregnancy. To be able to work with someone who's knowledgeable in the labor and delivery field to give you guidance along my 41 weeks of pregnancy was a godsend. Jenni was very informative, considerate, and compassionate. Jenni provided me with wealth of information over the course of my pregnancy with additional resources when I asked. I received more assistance and had all my questions answered from Jenni than my OB/GYN. For first time mothers, and repeating mothers, I 100% recommend Jenni at The Village Midwife, LLC as your Midwife.

I have been wanting to put this review up for a while.. but have been very busy with my 2 month old :) I can’t thank Jeni and her amazing team enough! I was 32 weeks pregnant when I reached out to her. I wasn’t happy with my current care at that moment and didn’t want to do another hospital birth. I called and she welcomed me immediately.. she was so supportive from day one. Very positive. I had low iron 9.1 at 34 weeks pregnant and we got it up to 11.4 in two weeks with her recommendations. I can’t say enough about my birth.. it was so magical. They set the birth room up so so sweet. When I got there at mid nite( after 1 hour of driving) it was so worth it to see Jeni and her team. They supported me through the whole labor. I wanted to give up some times but with their support I didn’t :) they made sure everything was safe with me and the baby. I still can’t believe I gave birth the way I did! It was amazing! Don’t hesitate to try birth centers! They have a great practice, they are very respectful the way you want to do things. You are the boss of your body, you are free! No body is telling you what you can’t do. All positive! I love you guys!! Thank you so much…

I just had my first child a few weeks ago, and Jeni and her team were so incredibly supportive, kind and informative. She was recommended to me through my doula, and they both were amazing. I wish I had the words to describe how important my birthing experience is to me and Jeni gave me all of the information I needed to make the best decisions for my son and she supported our health every step of the way. The next baby I have, she’ll be my midwife as well. I suggest her for any melanated woman (and every single woman) who is looking for care that puts you in the drivers seat of bringing your baby earthside. I love Jenni ❤️and her staff! If you are looking for COMFORT, PROFESSIONALISM, EXPERIENCE and above all a LOVING midwife then look no further. I walked in nervous I wouldn’t like her or be accepted, being a Registered Nurse made me aware of some things but learning to trust my own body over medical science was new to me but down to the moment I pushed my healthy baby boy out, I was empowered mentally and supported physically. It felt at home during my check ups, almost like a decompress session all about baby and I to lay back relax and TALK! The birth day , Jenni was there ASAP, and everything moved quickly but she managed baby, myself and my wholeee family well. She allowed me to set the scene and paste. Afterwards I was catered to lol helping baby and I clean up, shower, bed, breastfeed and eat. The process was way better than being in a hospital being bothered non stop, hooked up to in necessary machines, given costly or extra medication or fluids... the list goes on of why I chose a home birth but I’m just satisfied I went with Jenni ❤️

Jeni and her staff at The Village Midwife, LLC. are amazing. I switched to her when I was halfway through my first pregnancy because I wasn't happy with my OB and I wanted to have a homebirth. She was more than accommodating and we instantly clicked! She is very knowledgeable, relatable, loving, caring and honest. She truly treats her clients like family and thats what she is to us. She answered any questions me and my boyfriend had and made him and myself feel like we were fully capable of birthing our first baby with ease. I struggled with my iron and my blood sugar was a little elevated but Jeni's recommendations increased my iron and kept my blood sugar levels normal to ensure I could safely continue with my homebirth. Overall, it was a beautiful experience. She was there through it all and made me feel so comfortable and empowered throughout my pregnancy and birth. God truly sent her to me and we were so thankful. We obviously couldn't stay away so we had another homebirth with her for our second baby a year later! Lol. We love her and I highly recommend her and her wonderful team ❤

I previously felt like a number, had to get a babysitter for my older kids for each appointment (during COVID-19), and had to wait for 30 + minutes before my call was even answered with my previous OB group. I hired Jeni for my water home birth in 2020. My experience was pleasant. I loved the birth center where my prenatal were and I felt I had all the information I needed for a successful home birth.

Any time I had a concern they were there to answer my questions no matter the time of day. I was even able to have all my kids and husband with me at all times. After traumatic hospital experiences my experience with her was literally life changing. I still can see her face telling me how great I am doing and how beautiful I looked during my labor. She was everything that I needed. She serves the community in such an amazing way making mothers feel wanted and welcome from all backgrounds. I learned how much I had a passion of my own for midwifery that I became a student midwife myself. I love her and her team so much. I can't wait to do it again with her.

Jennifer Rector was my midwife for my first birth. She helped me build confidence in my decision to birth my first child at home and encouraged me to research so much more than *just* the birth. I learned so much from her that I went on to pursue my own midwifery licensure, become a doula, lactation consultant and child birth activist. I love her caring attitude and that she can be silly or serious at all the right times. She will pray with you when you need it most, take you seriously when you yell at her because you are laboring and don't believe she can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as good as your husband and she will laugh with you when it's all over! I went on to have three more children at home and wished every time that I hadn't moved eight hours away because I would have loved to have her by my side again. She loves you like family and really listens when you need her. She took me on late in my pregnancy when I decided I didn't want to birth in a sterile military hospital and I have been ever so grateful for the divine intervention which led me to her. One interview with her and you'll never go back to your OB again!

I was desperate to get out of the "on call" model of care where you get shuffled between doctors for appointments and stuck with whoever happens to be there when labor begins. Jeni, Amy, and Ady were exactly what I was looking for and more. Their care, friendship, and laughter made me look forward to prenatal appointments. They challenged me to do my own research and know what was going on with my body and my baby and encouraged me to make decisions to promote a healthier pregnancy. They did not consider my older children a hindrance to our appointments, instead they provided toys and books and love. I trusted 100% that my health and my baby's health were their #1 priority. They supported me beyond what I have ever experienced from a care provider. Now that my baby is born I feel like I lost some friends since I'm not going to see them every few weeks - but I didn't lose them. They are there helping countless other families and waiting for me for next time, ready to keep loving me and my babies.

Great midwife you can tell she really loves what she does and really loves her moms. Got up in the middle the night for a false alarm and didn’t even gripe about it. It’s a wonderful place and I’m glad our daughter could be brought into the world here!

Pregnancy, birth and labor can be very frightening and even stressful. Jeni and Amy work relentlessly to make sure this experience is as calm and joyful and totally personal as each mom has their own desire of ehat they want labor and delivery to be. Absolutely wonderful experience!! I was able to have an informed and supportive experience that I did not receive with my first birth (at the hospital). As a result I was in control and able to have a successful VBAC. My questions were answered, my fears were relieved and my decisions weren’t questioned. I will definitely be going back for future children ☺️

Update: here we are in 2019 and Jen has done it again for my family. Just recently delivered our 6lb 11oz baby girl with the continuous support and guidance of The Village Midwife. Plans change and things happen so this baby wasnt born at home like we had hoped, but Jeni's discernment guided us to hospital before our transfer became an emergency due to a very stubborn cervical lip. I was terrified. I was in agony. However, the calm and caring demeanors of Jeni and Amy carried me through the storm. They stayed by my side through the birth. They reassured me what I already knew. Transferring and utilizing an epidural to aid in rotating my baby did not equate to "failure". It's ok to need help and it is best to get it before true danger arises. Thank you for providing your wisdom during my sweet Connie's delivery. I love you women deeply. Jen is one of the kindest women I've ever met. Her positive disposition and enthusiasm for pregnant/birthing women is contagious. She supports and respects women from all walks of life in their birthing desires. I'm so excited to see what 2017 will bring for her birthing center. She is an asset to the community that is severely taken for granted. Thank you for your support and education, Jen. Would recommend to every pregnant woman I know, it’s so sad all the rights and choices you miss out when going to an OB. They made sure I had the birth I wanted and reassured me when I had doubts. I truly can't put into words the peace and tranquility and beautiful, amazing experience that Jeni and her staff gave both my husband and I. It didn't take any time at all for this group of wonderful women to become my friends. They encouraged me and supported me. They respected my wishes. I didn't feel like a number or even a science project like a doctor's office always makes me feel. These girls made me feel valued as a person. They respect your personal boundaries, even down to asking permission before touching your belly for routine examination. I came under Jeni's care in my second trimester, after we had just moved across the country and I had no insurance at the time. She helped me navigate the insurance problem. She and Amy and Kelly put up with all of my stupid first time mom questions and alleviated the anxieties I had over becoming a parent. I've often thought back to my hormone caused temperament problems and wondered how Jeni and her team can continue to be so gracious and loving and seem to never tire of what they do. We had our daughter in Jeni's birth center. It was a quiet, peaceful, and comfortable setting. There were no glaring hospital lights or pushy hospital staff. Jeni and her team were there to assist and instruct and ensure that nothing went wrong, but never did they become invasive or interfere. It was like they stood guard while I and my husband welcomed our daughter to the world, who arrived healthy and perfect in every way. It truly was a beautiful, meaningful experience that we will never forget. Jeni and her team are so special and truly have such a wonderful gift. I hope they never stop doing what they do!

Where do I even begin? Jeni and her team are beyond amazing. They took me in as a client at 37 weeks and helped me to achieve the most peaceful and amazing birth experience I could have imagined. They are so supportive and encouraging! Here I am two weeks later, and they have helped me through some stressful moments and helped me to feel more like myself than I have in a LONG time. I’m still shocked at how peacefully this transition to mommy of two has gone, and I absolutely attribute it to how supportive and encouraging they have been to me. Being sure I’m not forgetting to take care of myself and get adequate rest and recuperation after having my daughter. So to Jeni, Amy, and the girls...a huge THANK YOU for helping me feel like me again! <3

Jen is the absolute best! She makes you feel 100% at home and comfortable with whatever questions and concerns during pregnancy. Would recommend a million times over!

Jeni was just learning her skills when I had my 7th baby. I gave her some challenges! She was caring and professional. I felt safe and secure. It was my last baby. I have sweet memories and she made that possible! I wish I had more so she could have delivered them.

Jeni is not your traditional midwife- she is chaos, and love, and all things incredible rolled into a wonderful woman. You can ask her any question, or text her for any reason, and she is there for you. If you need someone flexible and willing to do anything to help you, Jeni is your woman.

Jeni is an amazing midwife! She delivered my third baby at home and it was such a wonderful, peaceful experience, and she takes a variety of insurances including tricare standard!

Although I have yet to have a baby this woman and her apprentices are the best in the world they explain everything to you they are always by your side anytime you need a question answered or just need a hug they are there 5/5 stars because they deserve it!!!

Jeni delivered my first born in 2013 and was an incredible midwife. She is very concerned, loving, and holistic. We had such a great experience with Jeni - that all future experiences have been bland. If you are presented with the opportunity to receive prenatal care from Jeni, don't pass it up. :)

Jeni is amazing. We loved how welcoming and real she was. She took the time to answer all of our questions, and we just felt comfortable with her from the beginning. She was so reassuring during our birth as well, and stayed afterwards to help clean up a bit, helped me get a shower, and made sure we were all settled in before she left (we had a home birth). We will hopefully be able to use her again if we are blessed with another baby!

Jeni is an amazing midwife!! She's very friendly, encouraging and she'll make you feel right at home from the very first visit. I would definitely recommend her over and over!!

Amazing woman. She was a complete support from day one. I felt empowered, encouraged and loved and cared for. Very laid back and made me feel at ease. If we were having anymore kids I would certainly be calling her up again. It was the best birth experience I have had of all three. Thanking God for her! She also works well with military and Tricare payments. No stress! Complete confidence in her! Would highly recommend her.
