Hello Families. My name is Dereka Carter and I am a maternal support practitioner and newborn care specialist excited to care for you and your little one. In addition to the daily operation of Carter Comprehensive Birth, I also specialize in working with high-profile families that travel the world while enjoying doing so. My parenting practice and teachings have strong roots in respectful care and I emphasize attachment theory about infant and parental mental health. I pride myself on being friendly, warm, empathetic, and flexible while helping families adapt to their new normal. Regardless of my training, I am happy to support your family goals in a nonjudgmental way while helping everyone transition into their new roles.
LaDereka was and has continued to be our emotional and healthcare question support through pregnancy as a teacher (daddy boot camp), doula and newborn care specialist. She was key to helping us understand our options and what to expect when my pregnancy went from normal and healthy to a diagnosis of gestational hypertension with bed rest at 34 weeks. LaDereka helped us rewrite our birth preferences to accommodate an induction at 37 weeks and led us through the different interventions and natural options we could try before agreeing to an intervention. LaDereka remained by our side through out the labor process as a trusted guide and second opinion with which to weigh the nurse and doctor’s suggestions and feedback. It was great to be able to ask questions and understand the process even when our nurse was attending to other patients. Although we ended up delivering our happy and healthy baby girl via caesarean, I know we tried everything we could have for a natural birth. As our newborn care specialist LaDereka was there on night 1 to ease our transition from hospital to home. Dad is getting to sleep through the night and takes over when her shift ends in the morning and mom is enjoying 8+ hours of sleep each night (with pumping mixed in!). Not only has LaDereka’s care of our newborn allowed us to prioritize sleep and my recovery, she’s a wonderful resource for lactation and all things baby care.

I am a passionate doula and yoga teacher who loves helping people find balance and strength in every stage of life. As a birth and postpartum doula, I specialize in natural births and believe every woman should have the opportunity to birth on her own terms. I provide evidence-based education, emotional support, and hands-on care, empowering families to make informed decisions that align with their values. With a calming presence and deep respect for the birthing process, I ensure each person feels supported, heard, and in control of their experience. Since 2019, I’ve been sharing my love for yoga through mindful, approachable classes filled with good energy. With a bachelor's degree in Child Development, I blend my deep knowledge with a warm, compassionate approach—whether I’m guiding someone on the mat or supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Above all, I am a devoted mother who cherishes time with my son. I find joy in the outdoors, spending my free moments with loved ones, on my yoga mat, or enjoying peaceful walks. My mission is to create nurturing, empowering spaces where people can grow, connect, and feel supported on their journey.
Mya is amazing! She did an excellent job going over my options (both in terms of birth interventions and her support measures) and learning my birth desires and preferred comfort measures during prenatal appointments. She took the time to interact with my children so they’d feel comfortable with her coming into our home. Once we knew baby was on the way, she arrived quickly and more than prepared for all my potential needs and desires. When labor was hard, I felt comfortable expressing my feelings, and Mya knew exactly what to do and say to encourage me and physically help me through the discomfort. My mother made it a point to call me the next day and say that Mya has a warm yet calming energy, and that she was impressed with how anticipatory Mya was (noticing when I might need water, a tens unit adjustment, a comb to hold, etc. and acting right away). I even overheard my midwife telling Mya how impressed she was and asking for business cards so she could recommend Mya to her clients. This was my third child and third unmedicated birth, and I can say with confidence that—even as an experienced and thoroughly educated mother—Mya made a significant, positive difference in how I experienced my labor. She was a trusted friend who moved through the experience with me, soothing me, supporting my family, and effortlessly helping to coordinate small details like facilitating pickup with the placenta encapsulator. I appreciated her knowledge, work ethic, and servant’s spirit. If I ever fall pregnant again, I will be hiring Mya, and I highly recommend you do, too.

Hello! My name is Shannon. I'm a birth and postpartum doula serving the DFW and surrounding areas. I'd be honored to be considered as your doula. I am deeply passionate about helping every birthing person I work with feel informed and empowered in their decisions. I offer support for all types of births including but not limited to: home births, water births, vbacs, and more. No matter what you choose for your own birth journey, I will be by your side every step of the way. I will help you feel empowered in your choices, informed in every decision you make, medical or non-medical, and nurture your needs to ensure you can focus on your new motherhood journey. Please reach out to me for questions and concerns.
We hired Shannon as our doula to help with the birth. She was good about communicating with us beforehand, and had answers for all of our questions. She helped empower me during my labor and pushing, and I appreciated having her there to support, guide, and comfort me through that time. Once I had given birth, she taught me how to nurse my baby. I was glad to have such a supportive woman at my side through it all. She also took a lot of pressure off of my husband by comforting and encouraging me (since he didn’t quite know how to help me at that time), which we very much appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience.

A Dallas native, Madison was inspired to be a doula as far back as elementary school when she and her older sister watched TLC’s A Baby Story in the early 2000s. Madison completed DONA International Training March 2020. Since 2020, Madison has assisted mothers through VBACs, C-Sections, vaginal births with and without epidurals, home births, birthing center births and hospital births. Madison passionately encourages all pregnant mothers to have a doula who advocates for and is totally focused on the mother’s desires, comfort, and endurance. She builds a relationship her clients before, during and after birth experiences and stays up-to-date on the latest techniques and tools to make the birthing process the best it can be. Madison is a placenta encapsulator and loves talking about all things related to birth. Madison has worked as a nanny for many years since college and has a flexible schedule. She builds life-long friendships and relationships with her clients. She and her husband enjoy country and western dancing, fishing, game nights with friends, and playing with her niece and nephews.

My philosophy as a midwife is rooted in both extensive personal experience and dedicated education. As a mother of five boys, including two natural births, one of which was born at home, I've lived through the very experiences I now guide others through. This invaluable perspective, combined with my Associate's in Midwifery from the MEAC Accredited Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and a Bachelor's from Texas Tech, has equipped me to serve as a midwife since 2022. I believe in fostering a supportive environment where birthing individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered to make informed choices throughout their pregnancy and birth journey.
My pregnancy/birth plus postpartum journey and experience with Brittney has been exceptional. I’m so glad I got connected to her. Brittney is caring, a great listener, flexible, understanding, and overall provided my family and I an excellent service as my midwife. We connected off the rip and I’ve enjoyed our time together; she has truly become someone I feel comfortable turning to if I need anything or have concerns even after our visits have come to a close. After having my baby boy, she was there for me regarding all the questions and concerns I had with her very timely responses. We had great conversations, she provided great suggestions/advice, flexible when appointments had to change, helped me feel in control of my experience and so much more. If you are looking for a midwife to guide you through your pregnancy journey to meet your baby, Brittney Clay is definitely the RIGHT ONE for you! I absolutely love her😭💕

With nearly a decade of experience serving women in the DFW area, BirthPointe stands as a premier women’s health and birth center. Our facility features three exquisitely designed birth suites, and our dedicated certified nurse midwives are here to provide compassionate care. Additionally, we offer monthly educational classes to support and empower women throughout their journey. Traci Santangelo MSN APRN CNM: Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University and started my career working in a local Labor & Delivery Unit. I then married a Yankee (don’t hold it against me), and he moved me to Detroit, Michigan, then to Miami, Florida, and finally to Chicago, Illinois—all for his exciting career. It was at the University of Illinois at Chicago that I received my Master’s in Nursing with a Midwifery designation and developed a deep desire to move back to the Lone Star State. I was tired of being cold! During that time away, I had two children (who have my heart completely), worked in some incredible hospitals as a Labor Nurse, and really developed a desire to serve women. Birth has always been my passion. I love every part of it! From the first positive pregnancy test, to watching a mother hear her baby’s heartbeat for the first time, to hearing that same baby cry at birth—I find all of it exciting and am in constant awe of how perfectly we are made to carry and birth a baby. I am a complete geek when it comes to the physiology of human development and can’t help but talk about developmental milestones because they are fascinating. Why wouldn’t you want to know everything about your baby?! I never tire of it. And I never tire of a woman’s need to feel validated, heard, and respected. You deserve that—you are a woman, for goodness’ sake! It is my great pleasure to serve women such as yourself at this time in your life. I want to give you the very best care I can provide, and I would be honored for the opportunity. Theresa Stryk MSN, APRN, CNM: Theresa grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. She moved to Texas to pursue her Biology degree at the University of Dallas, where she also played volleyball. She received her BSN from Texas Woman’s University and worked in Labor & Delivery at Parkland before getting her Master’s in Nursing from Texas Tech University and becoming a CNM. She is married to her wonderful husband, Logan, and they have two daughters, Julie and Helen. Theresa has had the privilege of previously working in a NaProTechnology office, where she gained valuable insights into the remarkable benefits of Fertility Awareness-Based Methods (FABMs) for so many women. Through her experience, she has seen how these methods empower women to understand and manage their reproductive health. At BirthPointe, Theresa is dedicated to continuing her mission of educating others about FABMs, promoting awareness, and supporting women in making informed choices about their fertility.

Rowlett, Texas
First, as a sister and a friend, then as a mother myself, I have seen the medical system sew fear and doubt into women regarding their body's capability to achieve what it was intended to. The truth is, childbirth is both natural and miraculous. I believe that every woman has the right to decide what interventions she wants to use in childbirth without the use of fear, but instead through true informed consent. I continue learning daily how best to help each new mama, both through lived experiences and through research, and will gladly share my knowledge. I also believe that every woman should be supported through the most vulnerable and powerful moment of her life. In a system that pushes women away from their natural state, I am here to be that calming support and advocate.
Here’s a thoughtful and heartfelt review you can use or personalize further: Review for My Amazing Doula I truly don’t have enough words to express how grateful I am for my doula. From the moment we arrived at the hospital and realized I was being put into labor unexpectedly, she jumped into action and never left my side. She was calm, collected, and incredibly supportive through every twist and turn. She advocated for me in ways I didn’t even know I needed — asking the right questions, helping me understand my options, and making sure my voice was heard in a very overwhelming environment. Her presence was reassuring and grounding, and I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without her. She kept me calm, hydrated, and motivated during every stage. Her attention to detail and ability to anticipate my needs was amazing. I felt genuinely cared for, and that made all the difference in my experience. If you’re looking for a doula who is compassionate, strong, knowledgeable, and fully committed to your well-being, look no further. She is truly a gift.

I am Shanna Hinrichs, and my story of community birth began over 20 years ago when I began supporting families as a doula, lactation consultant, and now midwife. I have known I was called to help women bring their babies earthside since I was a young child. I didn't know what that would look like, but I was fortunate to witness the intimate and precious home birth of a dear friend. That experience revealed my path as a birth worker and ignited my desire to serve women and their families in their most powerful and vulnerable moments. I am fulfilled by serving my incredible clients as their families grow. Attending births builds my trust over and over in women's bodies and their ability to transform and heal. I respect the responsibility of being a midwife and recognize the privilege of facilitating an experience that best supports my client's wishes. I believe that educated, informed choice is the best way for families to become empowered and make the best decisions for their pregnancy. That belief has afforded me the privilege to serve on the board of different cesarean awareness groups to help provide evidence-based information so families can make the appropriate choice for themselves and their current pregnancy. I am also a strong advocate for Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC) when it is the most appropriate choice. I was born and raised in Garland but have had the privilege to live in a few different states. I am married and have given birth to 9 children, each with their own distinct story. Having experienced 9 very different births and breastfeeding journeys, I have lots of hands-on personal experience to offer to you. When not engrossed in the birth world, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our 4 school-age kids still at home, and our dog and cats, as well as playing in the great outdoors, eating delicious food, and making our home in Rowlett as peaceful as a home with 4 kids (still living at home), a dog, and 2 cats can be. I would love the opportunity to chat with you to see if I would be the best midwife for you and your family. If we decide that I am not the best fit, I am more than happy to help you find the care provider you deserve as you travel this beautiful journey.
Shanna delivered my third baby. She is an amazing and caring midwife! She is knowledgeable and takes the time to get to know you and your family. She always answered my questions with detail and evidence backed information. At my birth she was fantastic in helping my husband catch our baby and managing me when I had some difficulty immediately postpartum. She was a huge blessing in my postpartum and understands the importance of support in the postpartum.

Hello! My name is Tab’itha, better known as Tabby, and I’m a passionate certified professional midwife currently residing in Mesquite, Texas. I was born and raised in the Stop 6 area of Fort Worth, TX, and I am a proud mother of three teenage girls. From a young age, I always wanted to be a "baby doctor." My grandmother would often say, "You will be a doctor, and your sister will be a lawyer." Although I encountered quite a few roadblocks and detours along the way, I eventually found my way back to what my grandmother had always believed in, but in a way that resonates with me even more—becoming a midwife. I later discovered that midwifery was in my blood; my great-grandmother was a trusted midwife in her small community in Mississippi, which further inspired my journey. I graduated from Southwest Tech with an associate degree in Health Science and Midwifery in December 2024 and passed my NARM exam in April 2025, becoming fully licensed as a midwife in Texas. I am currently finishing up my Bachelor’s in Nursing at Arizona College, further enhancing my skills and knowledge in healthcare. My journey into birth work began in 2018 when I trained as a birth doula through DONA. As a doula, I have attended over 150 in-hospital and out-of-hospital births. When COVID peaked, I was fortunate enough to continue support in the hospital. It was during this time that I realized I needed to acquire the education and skills to become a community midwife sooner than I had originally planned. During my schooling, I attended an additional 95 births and worked with several well-respected midwives and OB-GYNs in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, gaining invaluable experience. I have also acquired skills and experience as a bereavement and cesarean/VBAC support specialist, allowing me to provide comprehensive care to families during significant moments in their lives. I believe in the power of compassionate care and informed choices, striving to create a safe and nurturing environment for my clients. My end goal is to become a certified nurse midwife and nurse practitioner, bringing holistic and woman-centered care to communities that lack representation, including the area where I grew up. As an avid homeschooler, I enjoy engaging with my daughters in their education while also finding joy in my hobbies such as sewing, crafts, hosting workshops for young girls, and assisting in the offices I hold in my church. My goal is to continue growing in my practice while providing exceptional care to those I serve.
Tabitha is such an amazing birth worker, I met her when she was a doula and in the beginning stages of midwifery. The way she educated myself as well as my husband showed us that she was really passionate about the profession that she is in. I highly recommend any family to get under her care. Your amazing Tabby keep shining!

I’m Savannah, a certified birth doula, lactation support, and advocate for empowering birth experiences. My journey into birth work began with my own pregnancies—one that left me feeling unheard, and another that healed me and changed my perspective. After experiencing how crucial support, education, and advocacy are, I knew I wanted to help other women feel confident, informed, and supported during their births. Your Birth, Your Voice ! I believe birth should be a respected and personal experience. Too often, mothers are told what to do instead of being given the information to make their own decisions. That’s why I’m committed to: * Educating mothers about their choices * Offering unbiased, evidence-based support * Helping families navigate birth and postpartum with confidence You deserve to be heard, and your birth should reflect your voice. Whether you’re planning a hospital, birth center, or home birth, I’m here to support and encourage you every step of the way.
Because of Savannah, I had the birth I wanted to have. She listened and remembered everything I said, going into detail in our conversations with me, making sure I knew that I could make my birth beautiful. Being so supported leading up to my birth was essential. This translated into my natural delivery by giving me the confidence to listen to my body. She is so incredibly gifted, I cannot imagine giving birth without her there.
