After experiencing the challenges of the postpartum period with my first two children, I felt called to create a resource that could make this transition smoother and more supportive for others. I am a former L&D nurse, who chose to be a doula so because laboring families deserve consistent, focused, support evidence-based information so they can best advocate for themselves during one of the most transformational times in their lives. Because of the challenges nurses face in hospital settings, I did not have the time or resources to provide this level of support to families. I started Womb to World Birth and Lactation Support Services so that I can use my years of clinical, training and business experiences to create a community that is respectful, supportive and empowering to families of all types. My name is Maggie Mau, and I am a mom of two girls and two very sweet rescue pups, Hopper and Eleven. My partner is a longtime teacher for Saint Paul Public Schools and we have lived in the South Como neighborhood in Saint Paul for the last 15 years! As a family we enjoy camping, hiking and exploring our country’s beautiful national parks. It is not odd to find us hammocking up at Como park, picking mulberries and reading :) I enjoy running, gardening, reading and baking and hosting regular gatherings of family and friends. I have been in the Twin Cities nonprofit sector my whole career, and the passion that I feel for the success of individuals and families in our community is now being carried forward in a different, but equally important way – through the support and empowerment of families as they navigate their birth journeys. I believe in leading with empathy and deep listening, in order to best support families to create their own powerful birth experiences. My name is Cherie Schmidt. I am a licensed RN in the state of Minnesota. I retired a year ago as a triage nurse in an OB/GYN office. I worked there for 11 years. I have worked in Neonatal ICU, Newborn Nursery, did mother/baby nursing, and was a board certified lactation consultant and practiced for 10 years with inpatient and outpatient clients. I have been a doula for close friends. The goal is to have a healthy mom, baby, and help the partner get through pregnancy, childbirth, and new parenting. I also want to help children get through the experience of being a new sibling. I have been attended hundreds of deliveries and have taught prenatal classes. This position gives me joy. I want to understand your goals and ease the experience before, during, and after childbirth for the whole family! It would be my privilege to help your family during this journey!

A doula works alongside you in the prenatal, birthing time, and postpartum. I am a birth doula residing in South Minneapolis. I have a lot of interests and passions that led me to find birthwork. I find it perfectly intersects science and data, bodywork and movement, direct advocacy, and human connection. I love to laugh and cry with you, holding space for your emotions and experiences. I enjoy sharing my knowledge while being curious about everything I don’t know. After completing a B.S. at the University of Minnesota and a stint living in France, I started working as a consultant for our local utility companies, implementing an energy efficiency program for new home construction. By this time I was deep into a yoga practice and took a yoga teacher training at Yess Yoga in 2018. I learned so much and it exposed me to many holistic practices within the 8 limbs of yoga. Meanwhile, my all-female consulting team started expecting. They would come to the office with so much new information and questions after doctor/midwife appointments, not to mention what everyone was saying on the internet! I was so curious about it all! I discovered what a doula was and that people did it as a profession. Not long after I am happy to say I found a doula training and haven’t looked back.
