I'm a birth doula, and I provide a variety of services. I provide assistance during pregnancy and labor by giving parents the necessary information they need to make informed decisions. I provide newborn assistance, information on childbirth education, breastfeeding & lactation. I will provide emotional and physical support throughout labor. I am also available for parents who need postpartum support and care. I believe in holistic healing, ayurveda, essential oils, aromatherapy & yoga. I have lived in Taiwan and South Korea and learned about traditional healing methods. My experience includes working with women who have undergone abortions and high-risk IVF treatments. I accept several forms of insurance.
My husband and I initially engaged Rose Munoz for prenatal, Labor and Delivery (L&D), and postpartum doula services. While her extensive experience was promising during the interview process, our actual experience was marked by significant professional lapses, lack of presence during a medical crisis, and an inappropriate attempt to secure payment for services never rendered. Initial Concerns and Professionalism: Our concerns began early when Rose failed to show up for a scheduled 8:00 AM in-home session. We received no communication until we initiated contact at 8:45 AM, at which point she informed us she had overslept. While we understand the demanding nature of doula work, the lack of proactive communication was a red flag. Despite my husband’s reservations, I chose to give her the benefit of the doubt, valuing her commitment to her other clients' births. Lack of Presence During Labor and Delivery: Due to being 41 weeks pregnant, I underwent a scheduled induction. Rose was kept fully informed of our hospital admission and the timeline. Her strategy was to join us only once I reached 6 cm dilation—a policy she stated was to ensure she was "fresh" for the final stages. Labor is unpredictable. I progressed rapidly from 4 cm to 10 cm in just over two hours. Because Rose waited for a specific metric rather than providing support during the active induction process, she was not present for the birth of our daughter. Furthermore, despite staying in the hospital for 4.5 days due to serious complications—including delayed postpartum hemorrhaging—Rose never once visited the hospital to offer the advocacy or support we had hired her for. Inappropriate Billing and Communication: The most distressing part of this experience occurred when our daughter was only four days old. While at our first pediatrician appointment, Rose sent a text message "poaching" for direct payment, citing the days she spent "on call" and claiming she had turned away other clients. This was highly inappropriate for several reasons: 1. Contractual Violation: All billing was established to go through a third-party partner (Happy Baby Journey) and our insurance carrier. 2. Lack of Service: She requested payment for "support" during a birth she did not attend and a postpartum period where she was physically absent. 3. Insurance Integrity: She attempted to submit an invoice to the third-party processor for three days of service. Had we not proactively contacted the management at Happy Baby Journey to dispute this, these unauthorized charges would have exhausted a portion of my insurance allotment, leaving me with limited sessions available to hire a different doula for the postpartum care I desperately needed following my hemorrhaging. Final Thoughts: While we believe doula services are invaluable, they require a high degree of reliability and empathy. Rose Munoz failed to provide the support we sought during a vulnerable and medically complicated time, and her subsequent focus on securing payment for non-rendered services was deeply disappointing. I strongly advise expecting parents to trust their instincts early on. If a provider shows a lack of reliability during the prenatal phase, do not hesitate to find a replacement. We cannot recommend Rose Munoz for prenatal, L&D, or postpartum care.
