I have supported all types of birth experiences, including unmedicated births, epidural births, C Sections, VBACs, gestational diabetes, placenta previa, “geriatric” pregnancies, teen births, and many more. My background as licensed marriage and family therapist helps me to integrate skills of therapeutic support into your pregnancy experience. I’ve been a labor and delivery nurse for the past 7 years and have attended over 1600 births. I’ve worked at three top hospitals including Cedar Sinai in Beverly Hills, Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, and Scripps hospital, La Jolla. I am a RNC-OB, registered nurse certified in obstetrics as well as a lactation education counselor. I’ve taught labor and delivery at the university level and find teaching very rewarding. Education is at the heart of women’s empowerment. At Rising Lotus Birth, I provide support to pregnant women throughout all phases of care including prenatal visits, birth doula services, and postpartum visits. You may be wondering why I became a doula while still practicing in the hospital setting. My explanation is always that over the years I’ve noticed an overwhelming need for more patient advocacy, education, and birth support in order to achieve better birth outcomes. Birth is my passion. My goal is to help you achieve a better birth and postpartum experience!

Jas is also a Reiki practitioner, a student of traditional midwifery learning from partera Mirna Amaya in Mexico,and other Parteras from Latinoamerica. They are a certified lactation educator and trauma informed practitioner.

My name is Sarah Tunney, and I am a home birth midwife with 11+ years of professional birth experience, have attended 600+ births, and am now serving LA and OC along the coast. I have a background as an herbalist; most of my midwifery training was done with the Amish in Pennsylvania and in low-resource settings outside of the US (you can find my full bio on my website). I provide midwifery care now matter where you plan to birth — prenatal care, postpartum care, newborn care, lab work, family planning counseling, breastfeeding & lactation support. And I mostly attend home births/water births for my clients including VBACs, I offer support in your home, or you can come to one of my offices (Solana Beach or Costa Mesa). I offer natural induction support and help get babies into an optimal position for birth, and lactation/ breastfeeding support. I offer all of the newborn screenings offered at the hospital (newborn hearing screening, CCHD, newborn screening "heel poke") and all other newborn assessments; I am not able to offer circumcision or vaccinations. i accept Medi-Cal, Health Share Co-ops and most PPO insurance.
