About me

As an indigenous person working as a lactation counselor, childbirth educator, birth doula and postpartum doula I offer unique opportunities to integrate traditional practices with contemporary support. In this experience, the doula role extends beyond the physical recovery and infant care; it requires cultural humility , respect for ancestral knowledge and recognition of the community’s values. This experience highlights that postpartum care is not one-size-fits-all model. The doula’s presence becomes a bridge between worlds-supporting modern postpartum practices while safeguarding cultural continuity. In conclusion, working with an indigenous doula ;has given me the responsibility to practice the cultural humility of my heritage, honor my traditional knowledge and provide holistic care. Such experiences that demonstrate support is most effective when it respects identity, empowers families and nurtures both body and spirit!
