Hi there! My name is Darshal but you can call me Dee! I am a mom and experienced doula. I’m originally from Mississippi, and have a beautiful, blossoming teenage daughter! My journey into motherhood and the knowledge and empowerment gained through childbirth has led me to become a doula. I have a passion for helping women achieve a positive and satisfying childbirth experience. My goal as a doula is to help educate, advocate, offer support and comfort for all birthing persons during their fertility, pregnancy along with labor, ultimately leading to a positive birth and wellness experience.

Dee the Doula (Darshal) is simply phenomenal! From the moment we connected, Dee brought such warmth, professionalism, and genuine care to every conversation. She is not only a certified birth & postpartum doula but also a student midwife with an incredible depth of knowledge about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Her approach is the perfect balance of evidence-based guidance and heartfelt emotional support. She listened to my needs, respected my preferences, and made me feel empowered every step of the way. Whether it was helping me create a birth plan, offering comfort measures during labor, or ensuring I had the resources I needed at home postpartum, Dee went above and beyond. Even during times when she was navigating her own personal life challenges and may not have been quite as sharp for a few moments as she’s usually 110% of the time, she still showed up fully for me and my family. We gave her space to process because what good would she be to us if she wasn’t replenished? That mutual respect only strengthened our bond, and I can truly call her family and for that, I’m deeply grateful. It’s clear that this is more than just a job for her, it’s her calling. She treats her clients like family and creates a safe, uplifting environment for both parents and baby. If you’re looking for someone who will advocate for you, educate you, and hold space for you through one of the most important times in your life, I can’t recommend Dee the Doula enough! As we grow our family, she will ALWAYS be our go to doula! I can’t wait to see her in action one day as a midwife!

Hi, I'm Catherine! I live in Hyattsville with my husband, 2.5 YO son and puppy named Daisy. After graduating from the University of Maryland in 2014, I traveled around doing some mission work, met my husband while living in Maine and eventually we landed back in my hometown to start a family. I love spending time at the beach, going for walks outside, a little coffee with my cream, fuzzy socks, loud country music, driving with the windows down, bonfires, sweater weather, cooking and baking from scratch, salted caramel, mom groups and Gilmore Girls. I believe that birth is meant to work, and that all women deserve support, encouragement and respect while they are birthing their beautiful baby! Let me walk with you on this journey towards motherhood however that looks for you. I am happy to support you with in-person or virtual doula services. I am trained in Hypnobirthing and Lamaze techniques, and currently working towards certification with Madriella Birth Doula Certification. I am excited to meet you and support you on this journey - reach out to me today so we can chat about your hopes and dreams for this birth! :)

Catherine was our support system for the birth of our first daughter. She taught us so much as we prepared to welcome our daughter, and she was the cheerleader I needed by my side during delivery. She was always available for random questions/concerns and she helped us get the information we needed to feel confident in the decisions we made at the hospital and beyond. As a Catholic family, it was also really nice to have another strong Catholic woman praying for us and with us throughout the whole process. I have recommended Catherine to friends considering hiring a doula, and I will continue to do so.

Nikita Wise

Ellicott City, Maryland

Nikita Wise

10 years of experience

Nikita Wise is a Traditional Apprentice Midwife serving families throughout the Baltimore–Washington region with a deep commitment to culturally centered, respectful, and holistic maternity care. Widely recognized for her dedication to Black and minority families, Nikita has spent over a decade supporting women through fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with compassion, clinical rigor, and ancestral reverence. Born and raised in Baltimore City, Nikita later relocated to suburban Maryland at age 19, where her personal journey into motherhood profoundly shaped her professional calling. Becoming a mother at 16 with the steadfast support of her married parents, she developed an early passion for maternal health and a determination to serve women during some of life’s most transformative moments. This experience inspired her pursuit of a career in labor and delivery and ultimately midwifery. In 2013, Nikita began her formal clinical training by earning her Nursing Assistant Certification at the Gandhi School in Pikesville, Maryland. She then advanced her medical training at Brown’s Career Institute, where she became both a Patient Care Technician and Certified Phlebotomist. That same year, she entered the field of obstetrics as an OB Surgical Technician at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., completing the hospital’s in-house Surgical Technology Program and receiving extensive on-the-job training in high-acuity maternity care. Over the next five years, Nikita worked across multiple labor and delivery units throughout the DMV, including Sibley Memorial Hospital, The George Washington University Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Providence Hospital, StoneSprings Hospital Center, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. During this time, she gained firsthand experience in operative births, maternal emergencies, and interdisciplinary obstetric care—knowledge that continues to inform her midwifery practice today. In 2019, recognizing the limitations of hospital-based care for families seeking autonomy and holistic support, Nikita transitioned from surgical technology to birthwork as a doula and student midwife. That same year, she founded DMV Birth Doulas, LLC, a full-spectrum doula practice dedicated to empowering families through personalized, evidence-informed, and culturally affirming support. In 2020, Nikita launched The Black Doula Training, LLC, an accessible, low-cost educational program designed to increase diversity in the birthwork profession and prepare aspiring doulas for professional practice. Many graduates of the program have gone on to serve families in community settings and within DMV Birth Doulas’ professional network. In December 2024, Nikita successfully fulfilled the hands-on training and skills checklist requirements ine PEP process as an Apprentice Midwife including observing 10 births as a doula, assisting in 20 births as an assistant under licensed midwives, and attending 30 births as a primary student under direct supervision.  Throughout her training, she worked under the mentorship and clinical supervision of respected midwives across the Mid-Atlantic region, including: Bayla Berkowitz, CNM (Pikesville, MD) Monika Karaosman, CPM (Berlin, MD) Elder Midwife Maureen McIver, CPM (Pennsylvania) Ryann Bernard, CPM, JD (Alexandria, VA) These mentors evaluated her clinical skills, birth outcomes, and professional competencies, affirming her readiness to practice midwifery in community and out-of-hospital settings. Today, Nikita is the owner of The House of Gloria Fertility & Birth, a sacred, boutique midwifery and fertility practice in Ellicott City, Maryland. Her work blends traditional midwifery principles with modern clinical standards, offering families holistic fertility care, homebirth midwifery, and comprehensive postpartum support. She is particularly known for her dedication to informed consent, physiologic birth, and culturally grounded care that honors Black maternal health and ancestral birth traditions. Nikita remains deeply invested in education, mentorship, and advocacy for maternal health equity. Through her clinical practice, training programs, and community outreach, she continues to expand access to respectful, culturally aligned birth care for families across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

As a young child, I found my way to birth before I had language for it. At five years old, I was guiding my dolls through labor, sitting with them, speaking softly, staying close. I didn’t understand what I was doing then, but something in me already knew. There was a quiet pull toward women in this moment of becoming. As I grew older, that pull deepened. I became fascinated by the power held in pregnancy, birth, and the early days after. The way a body carries, protects, and nourishes life. The way a baby makes their way into the world. The way a mother changes forever once they meet. It felt sacred, ancient, and deeply familiar. I often imagined myself surrounded by ancestors and loved ones, witnessing prayers and dreams taking form as new life arrived. What followed birth felt just as powerful to me. Watching a mother soften and strengthen at the same time. Watching intuition awaken. Watching love root itself in ways that cannot be taught. Mothers and babies choosing one another. A love story that begins again and again. For years, I was visited by dreams. Women from all walks of life birthing their babies. In each dream, I was there. Holding hands. Offering comfort. Showing up in a way understood only by women and the spirits who have always walked with us. The dreams didn’t stop until I finally listened. I became a certified birth and postpartum doula and stood alongside more than two hundred families. I have been a sister, an aunt, a steady presence in moments of fear, release, and joy. I’ve wiped tears, celebrated feeding breakthroughs, and watched parents grow into themselves. To be clear, I don't possess any special power; I merely hold the flashlight as parents navigate and uncover their own. Beyond my work, I am a mother to three humans who shape me every day. My oldest is deeply nurturing, a true revolutionary who speaks with power and purpose. My son teaches me how to slow down and feel, how to think bigger, how to trust what feels impossible. And my youngest, known by her Ghanaian uncle as “The Queen Mother,” leads with her whole spirit. She chases the wind, climbs trees, jumps in puddles, tends the garden, and mothers our chickens and ducks with ease. Favorite things: The roar of the ocean Barred owls calling at night A truly binge-worthy show Deep, uncontrollable laughter Friends who don’t take life too seriously

Thank you so much for stopping by! My journey to birth work began in 2017, following the birth of my first baby. I have been a fully certified childbirth educator and doula since 2018. Additionally, I recently obtained my Certified Breastfeeding Specialist certificate (CBS) from Lactation Education Resources in October 2025. Prior to getting into birth work, I attended Notre Dame of Maryland University, where I studied biology and graduated with high honors. I have since become a mother of 2. Both of my children were born without intervention and at home. When not working, I can be found reading for pleasure, exercising, doing yoga, hiking, or gardening. I reside in Bowie, MD and serve clients within a 50-mile radius of my home.

My experience taking Kristen's Bradley Method course was just what I needed. I cannot thank Kristen enough for all that she taught my husband and I. For example, the biggest thing that helped me manage each contraction were the counter pressure techniques she had us practice in class. Thanks to her classes and the grace of God, I was able to have a natural, unmedicated birth as I had hoped! They say doing a natural birth is 70% mindset, and I truly believe Kristen's Bradley Method course played a HUGE part in giving us the resources, research, education, hands-on practice and CONFIDENCE that we could do this, and we did. I highly recommend her services.

From the moment we met Heather, she felt like a member of our family. She was instrumental in helping us achieve a beautiful labor and birth, advocating for my preferences, managing pain, and guiding me through various positions to facilitate progress in labor. In the weeks leading up to the birth, Heather dedicated several hours to preparing my partner and me. She encouraged us to consider different scenarios, practiced Spinning Babies techniques with us, and discussed my labor preferences in detail. Thanks to her calming expertise, we approached the experience without anxiety, confident in Heather’s support. When I faced a complication after delivery, Heather remained by our side throughout. She guided my partner in supporting me and advocated to keep our baby with me at all times—something I believe greatly contributed to the positive outcome of our situation. After we were discharged, Heather visited us at home and provided invaluable practical support that we hadn’t received at the hospital. She helped with swaddling, bottle feeding, soothing a fussy baby, and even advised us on some essential overnight Amazon purchases. During this time, Heather also assisted us in navigating and processing the trauma we experienced, validating our complex feelings and helping us appreciate the beauty of our birth. Heather will always be a cherished part of our family and our story. We cannot recommend her services enough.
